Question by : GLBT: What would you do in this situation?
I ordered some glasses from a popular fashion site. My order cost me about $ 15 including shipping. I waited about a week and 2 days, and got the package in the mail. I opened the package, and inside were some glasses. Very nice, almost similar glasses, but they were not the ones I ordered.
So I was a little irritated that I received the wrong sunglasses. I kinda wanted to wear the exact one’s I ordered with an outfit this week. Now I would have to postpone it (Theoretically). On the shipping label, it said in order to return anything I would have to go online (as the package did not come with a return label). So I went online to their return section, and found out that it would cost $ 5.95 to generate a return label. On the page it said in bold letters that their policy is that you have to pay for a return slip. You pay $ 5.95 by credit card, or by an online refund. I didn’t want to do the refund. I simply wanted the glasses that I ordered.
I was irritated at that point, and talked to the customer service on their LIVECHAT about this. I told them I did not want to pay an extra $ 6 for glasses that only cost me $ 15. That’s almost like paying twice for one item. In a way… They weren’t very cooperative, and they said I didn’t have to use their labels if it were a problem. I could just “find my own way to ship it back to them then”. So I was very angry. They then asked why did I want to return them, and I said because they were the wrong glasses. They asked which ones I received, and I told them I didn’t know. So I looked up the brand on the box of the glasses and typed it on their site and found out something very interesting:
The glasses that they accidentally sent me are $ 130 on their site! The glasses that I was supposed to receive were only $ 12!
So…upon learning that, they instantly said “Ok, we’ve generated a free shipping label for you.” lol, Ha..
So…they’re not the glasses I wanted, but they’re worth about $ 100 more! To keep or not to keep? That is the question. Wouldn’t it be better to keep these and just order the cheaper glasses again? If you don’t give a f*ck? Win win situation. :-)
Let’s be realistic. Sure it may be stealing, but they’re based in New Jersey. I’m in Texas. They’re a big company. It’s not like they’re going to send someone after me for some $ 130 glasses, that they accidentally sent me. Maybe a 10% chance, but I doubt it. Plus I could always say “I was mistaken, you guys did send the right glasses.” Suckers. I’d kinda feel a little guilty, but not really.
Don’t tell me I’m a bad person. I kinda know this. Never said I was. I said, what would YOU do in this situation.
